The traditional Ruten Mountain Lodge is situated in the charming Espedalen valley, with a stunning view towards the national parks Langsua and Jotunheimen. The lodge was originally a small mountain farm, but has since 1939 been a popular lodge where you can enjoy excellent dinners, step outside to breathe in the fresh mountain air – and simply enjoy Ruten as a relaxing getaway from the everyday hustle and bustle.
The hotel is perfectly located for biking trips in the summer, along the Mjølkevegen route. There are also several hiking, biking and canoeing opportunities from the doorstep.

The Lodge is the home of Berit and Arthur Bredli, and and Berit is the third generation at Ruten. The Lodge was established in 1939, and has developed from a small mountain pasture belonging to the farm Søre Brenna in Skåbu, to a traditional mountain lodge. At Ruten their hearts go into good food: homemade, traditional, generous and tasty. The hostess, Berit, is the chef and her husband, Arthur, is a highly skilled beer brewer that will provide good drinks in the afternoon.

Espedalen Mountain Brewery is located at Ruten. The host and brew master, Arthur, serves a variety of good beer on tap at the Lodge.
Ruten is located in the Espedalen Valley, a tributary valley to Gudbransdalen, about 240 km from Oslo and 300 km from Trondheim. From Oslo you follow the E6 road towards Lillehammer. At the intersection (number 83) on E6 by Lillehammer, follow the signs to FV255/Gausdal/Storhove/Fåberg. Drive Vestringsvegen to Espedalsvegen, and follow the signs to Ruten.
Multiple train departures daily from Oslo Train Station to Lillehammer and Vinstra stations (3 hours). Check time tables and book tickets on: www.entur.no. It is also a bus connection between Vinstra and Ruten daily during the summer-and winter seasons. Check route 240 at www.entur.no.
